The holiday season wraps around us, and I feel it’s the perfect time to reflect on one main takeaway from the closing year. For me, this year’s sentiment is best captured by an amazing artist:
…and that’s what they don’t see, mm-mm
That’s what they don’t see, mm-mm..
2024 has been a mosaic of highs and lows—marked by challenges and triumphs, moments of clarity and unexpected ambiguity, heartbreaks and celebrations. I’ve crossed paths with incredible new people, uncovered hidden talents and engaged with bold, inspiring ideas. Yet, these moments of growth were tempered by the weight of disappointments in some familiar faces and once-trusted systems while facing the uncomfortable reality of my misjudgments.
One realisation has stayed with me through it all: we often fail to see the magic in others. Too frequently, we focus on judgments and misconceptions, falling into the habit of defining the world by others’ flaws instead of recognising their potential. Much too often, we assume instead of getting to know and understand people, circumstances, events…
What if we embraced a different kind of resolution for 2025? Instead of committing to being more productive, disciplined, or efficient, we would make a conscious choice to approach everyone and everything we encounter in 2025 as a wonder waiting to unfold rather than a failure to critique.
Here’s to a new year of looking deeper, loving wider and being kinder and truer to the world and ourselves!
